October 2026 clinical trial highlights
Research study participants are essential in the quest for new treatments and a cure for pulmonary fibrosis (PF).
Each month, we'll highlight a few of the many trials enrolling volunteers. All past issues are available on the PFF Clinical Trials Blog. To view more trials for various forms of interstitial lung disease (ILD), visit the 🔍 PFF Clinical Trial Finder.

Phase 3 IPF study meets its primary endpoint
In October 2026, Bristol Myers Squibb announced its phase 3 IPF study, ALOFT-IPF, met its primary endpoint. A primary endpoint is the measurement that researchers use to determine if a medication or other intervention works as intended.
In IPF studies, forced vital capacity (FVC) is the primary endpoint. FVC is a measurement obtained when a patient completes a spirometry test (e.g., pulmonary function test). In the ALOFT-IPF study, participants that were administered admilparant, 60 mg twice daily, had less lung function decline than those who received the placebo at 52 weeks.
Bristol Myers Squibb will complete a comprehensive evaluation of the ALOFT-IPF trial data and present detailed results at a future medical meeting.
The trial achieving its endpoint marks a significant development in advancing care for patients living with IPF and demonstrates the importance of research studies which support the development of new therapies.
Join us for two days of PF and ILD Education
The PFF Education Symposium will be held from November 12 to 13, 2026. This two-day virtual conference combines education and community together into one virtual event.
The Symposium will feature the PFF Clinical Trial Innovation (CTI) Series on both days of the Symposium. The CTI Series provides the latest information about research and advancements in PF and ILD.
The Symposium has been designed specifically for people affected by PF and ILD: patients, caregivers, lung transplant recipients, family members, friends, and those who have lost a loved one.
To register and learn more, visit the registration webpage.
