Breathing Easier: What to Know about Pulmonary Fibrosis — and How Pulmonary Rehab Can Help (Virtual)

Thu, Mar 19, 2026
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM EST
When breathing becomes difficult, everything else in life can feel harder too. Pulmonary fibrosis (PF) is a serious lung condition, but for many people, the diagnosis raises more questions than answers.

What is pulmonary fibrosis, exactly? How is it different from interstitial lung disease? What causes it, how is it treated, and what can actually help you feel better day to day? This in-depth, patient-centered conversation explores the evolving science while keeping a firm focus on lived experience and practical care. Leading pulmonary specialists will break down the fundamentals of pulmonary fibrosis and interstitial lung disease (ILD), including symptoms, diagnostic pathways, and current treatment options — from medications to non-pharmacologic approaches. Special attention will be given to the familial aspects of the disease and to the growing network of resources available to patients and caregivers navigating an ILD diagnosis.

The discussion will also explore pulmonary rehabilitation, an essential but often underutilized component of care. Panelists will address how pulmonary rehab can improve physical endurance, breathing efficiency, and overall quality of life, while also supporting mental health, confidence, and resilience in the face of chronic lung disease.

Featuring Dr. Christian Becker, physician-scientist at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and Director of the Mount Sinai Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program, whose research and clinical work focus on IPF and other pulmonary diseases, alongside Dr. Amy Hajari Case, Chief Medical Officer of the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (PFF) and a national leader in advanced lung disease care directing the PFF Care Center at Piedmont Healthcare, Atlanta, Georgia, this program offers expert insight, up-to-date research, and actionable guidance.

Whether you are living with pulmonary fibrosis, supporting someone who is, or seeking a deeper understanding of the disease, this conversation aims to inform, empower, and help you breathe a little easier.

This event is hosted in collaboration with 92NY as part of the Spark Your Health Talk Series.
