Crafts for PFF
In February 2014, Sharon was diagnosed with a genetic form of Pulmonary Fibrosis, an autoimmune disorder that causes lung tissue to become damaged and scarred over time. As pulmonary fibrosis worsens, those who are affected become progressively short of breath, with their quality of life greatly decreasing. Currently, the lung damage caused by this disease can not be repaired, but medications and therapies are prescribed with the hope to ease the various symptoms and side effects. In the grand scheme of things, very little is known about this deadly disease, its progression, and whether or not there are specific genetic markers for the 200+ variations.
Sharon was more than just a caring person--she was an amazing wife and mother to three beautiful children. Not to mention, she touched the lives of thousands throughout her 38 year teaching career. She was an extremely gifted sewer and spent much of her time crafting bags, dresses, and pillowcases to donate to Little Dresses for Africa, St. Judes, and Warm-Up America (among others). Her life was full of compassion, her sense of humor was contagious, and her kind heart was truly felt by everyone who knew her.
In Sharon's honor, her family and friends are seeking to raise $25,000 to donate to The Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. Donations will benefit those who have succumbed to the disease, are currently fighting it, and will face pulmonary fibrosis in the future.
Sharon is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 39 years, Alan Cirilli, as well as her three children (Alan II, Anthony, and Ashley M.) and daughter in law (Ashley E.).
