Every Breath Counts Memorial 5K Walk/Run and Bake Sale
My mom was diagnosed 3 years ago with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). She was never a smoker and lived an active lifestyle. She remained active in the community until about 6 months before her death. She had a few episodes of passing out due to lack of oxygen and spent several afternoons in ER.
Through my mom's illness I saw the true meaning of unconditional love. My dad tirelessly cared for my mom, I have never seen such unselfish love. In the last week when my mom was bedridden and it was a struggle to even sit up, with every move, they would exchange a hug and a kiss. The last evening I had the privilege of sleeping next to my mom and holding her hand.
She was the sweetest, gentlest woman I have ever known. She never said an ill spoken word about anyone and to us, her children and grandchildren, she was the prime example of a "Proverbs 31" woman.
We did not fully understand her struggle or IPF, only through research and literature given by the doctors. There are at least 4-5 people in Ironwood Township, this small community, to lose their battle with IPF. We are hoping to raise awareness in our community and help contribute in some way to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation in hopes that someday a cure or treatment can be found. We owe it to our mother to help in the best capacity we can and being a family of runners, this only seemed a logical event to hold. Not to mention we love baked goods too.
We hope you will join us on April 11th for our Every Breath Counts Memorial Walk/Run and Bake Sale. Registration begins at 7:00am and walk/run will begin at 8:00am. Bake sale will run from 7:00am-10:00am. Cost to participate for walk/run is $10, day of race. All proceeds go to benefit the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
