The Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (PFF) is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of devoted pulmonary fibrosis (PF) advocate and board member emeritus, Daniel E. Beren. Dan served as an active member of the PFF Board of Directors for nearly ten years and remained a steadfast supporter of the Foundation until his death.

Since his retirement in 2010, Dan Beren served as Chairman emeritus of the State Government Relations Section of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC. He was the first managing partner of the Harrisburg office of the law firm and founded its government relations practice. He was also a distinguished Pennsylvania legislator and lobbyist.

In 2006, Dan lost his wife of 49 years, Joan, to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). He devoted his time, energy and lobbying skills to fighting this dreadful disease. His efforts led to the establishment of the “Daniel and Joan Beren PA-IPF Registry,” which provides advocacy and support for IPF patients and compiles data for researchers.

“Our colleague and friend will be greatly missed by the entire PF community. Dan was instrumental in helping the Foundation gain recognition and credibility during its growth. We wish to express our deepest condolences to his family during this difficult time,” said PFF Chief Executive Officer, Daniel. M. Rose, MD.
