Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group of Greater Washington, D.C.

  • Dates: 27 Apr, 2021
  • Location: Virtual
Time: 12:30  p.m– 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time

Topic: Lung Transplant

Speaker: Patricia Jackson, RN Pre Transplant Coordinator, Inova Fairfax Medical Campus

A lung transplant can be an option for some patients and is the only  medical therapy available to help improve survival for PF.  It is important to remember that while bilateral lung transplant recipients no longer have PF, they are said to trade one set of symptoms for another. Today we will hear from our transplant coordinator who will be sharing the process and answering questions.  We also hope to have members of our own group share personal experiences.

Some topics we plan to cover:
  • The process for lung transplantation from evaluation through post-surgery
  • Explanation of how lungs become available and the lung allocation score (LAS)
  • Post-transplant care including medications and rejection

This group meets virtually. To receive virtual meeting information, please contact Susan Perry at susan.perry@inova.org  or 703.776.5776.
