Krysten Knievel Will Run in October 12th Chicago Marathon to Raise Funds to Fight Pulmonary Fibrosis

I implore you to help fund research and awareness by the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. Please sponsor me to run in the Chicago Marathon on October 12, 2008. My grandfather, Evel Knievel passed away December 4, 2007 after a long, hard fought battle with this disease. Pulmonary Fibrosis is the scarring of the air sacs in the lungs. The fibrotic lung tissue, makes it difficult for oxygenated blood to flow throughout the lungs. Thus, the patient literally suffocates.

Here was a man that was idolized by Americans everywhere, here was a man who had risked his life so many times doing what he loved, here was a man who had never given up, here was a man, my grandfather, whom I as well as so many other people saw as invincible who was losing his life to a disease in which insufficient research has been done due to lack of funding. Over five million people are affected by Pulmonary Fibrosis worldwide. In the United States alone, over 200,000 struggle with this disease. More than 40,000 of these patients expire annually. I do not want other patients or family members of patients to suffer from this disease any longer.

Your sponsorship is very much appreciated by the Knievel family and the families of so many other patients who are afflicted with this disease. My grandfather taught me to take pride in what I do, to set my goals high, and to fight for what I am passionate about. Even though my grandfather lost the fight for his life, I will not stop fighting to find a cure for Pulmonary Fibrosis in his honor. Thank you for your consideration.

Pulmonary Fibrosis is an illness in which the air sacs of the lungs are gradually replaced by scar tissue. As the disease progresses the scar tissue interferes with the lungs ability to transfer oxygen from the lungs to the bloodstream. Eventually a person with PF will die from heart or respiratory failure. In the U.S. alone more than 200,000 suffer from this disease. Of these, more than 40,000 will die annually until we find a cure. If you should require additional information, please contact me at toddkramer@sbcglobal.net or home phone (847) 759-8210.
