I am a preschool teacher so of course I'm exposed to lots of germs. At the end of March I got a stomach virus and it lasted a couple days or so. Afterwards on that Saturday a day I won't forget, I had a party I was hosting. I felt so weak that when I walked my heart felt like it was pounding out of my chest. I assumed I was dehydrated so I went to the ER and to my surprise they kept me. I had severe pneumonia and had developed sepsis. I stayed in the hospital 5 days.

Once the infection was clear and they were ready to discharge me my oxygen would not stay at 88 when they walked me. It was always below. So the only way I was able to leave was with oxygen. Some lady brought me in a big rusted container and they sent me home with that. They informed me the oxygen company would be out later that day with the other. I was so confused, devastated, I left home one way and came back totally different. I refused to use the oxygen outside of my house. Pride, embarrassed, lots of emotions. My doctor sent me to a lung specialist and I had a cat scan which showed scarring of both lungs and he told me it appeared to be pulmonary fibrosis. I shared all my fears frustrations with him about the oxygen tank. He changed my company and now I have a small purse size POC. I am in Pulmonary Rehabilitation and that has helped me tremendously, and I feel better about me knowing there are others in the world who share some of the same fears an feelings as I do.

As for my Portable Oxygen Concentrator I blinged it up to make it my personality and I named her Grace . I always have hope , and my faith wont let me think any other way!! I have to be positive , and think positive for me to get through all this. My favorite song is by Leanne Womack I Hope You Dance , so if I get the choice to sit it out or dance , I choose to dance . I want to help make a difference and make people aware of this disease. Until April I myself never heard of it.  It feels good to be a part of something so important . I am very excited about celebrating Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness in September.
