Wine Tasting for Pulmonary Fibrosis
I will always recall in great detail the day I received a call from my mother in April of 2005. Over the years, she had been getting winded walking, while going up the stairs and struggling for breath as she slept at night. She was calling to tell me that the doctors had determined what was causing all of these symptoms. She calmly explained to me that she was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) and was given 2-5 years to live. IPF causes 40,000 deaths per year in the USA, the same as breast cancer and yet many people have never heard of it including my family until my mother was diagnosed. Unfortunately in 2008 my mother, Patricia Vaudreuil, was one of those deaths.
In my personal desire to raise money for research as well as raise awareness of this little known disease, I reached out to my friend, Amy LaBelle, of LaBelle Winery in Amherst, NH, (www.LaBelleWineryNH.com) to plan a fundraising Wine Tasting event at her facility. As we chatted, I was surprised to learn that pulmonary fibrosis effected people very close to her as well. The owner of the orchard that offered Amy space for her wine making as she was just starting to grow her business, Robert Jasse, passed away from pulmonary fibrosis in the fall of 2008.
In order to raise money and awareness about this terrible disease I am hosting the First Annual Wine Tasting event in memory of both my mother, Patricia Vaudreuil, and orchard owner, Robert Jasse.
The 1st Annual Wine Tasting for Pulmonary Fibrosis will be held at LaBelle Winery on Saturday, September 25th from 4-6 PM. Tickets are $25.00.
My goals of this event are to offer a fun evening to a sell out crowd, while providing local merchants an opportunity to advertise their business through donations to the event as well as educate the community about this quiet killer.
