Her relationship to Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation runs deep. Her Dad passed away from pulmonary fibrosis. She was 11. Subsequently, siblings of his also died of pulmonary fibrosis. During her medical school education, she spent Spring 2003 in Dr. David Schwartz's lab doing molecular biology on pulmonary fibrosis research. It was very meaningful and productive. She observed that certain regions within the genetic material showed potential gene mutations in many but not in all of the pulmonary fibrosis families in the study. A poster of this work was presented in December 2003. She sees it as a priviledge to be a part of the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. Her short term goals include reaching out to the pulmonary fibrosis patient population and helping organize a pulmonary fibrosis workshop at one of the Chicago Medical Centers.
